Our Purpose, Values & Principles

Taken together, our purpose, values and principles are central to the character of Durst Kerridge.

Our purpose unifies us in a common cause to win clients’ cases. Our values shape the tone of how we interact with clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, Judges, and others in the legal community. And our principles articulate our unique approach to handling cases.

Our Purpose –

We will provide outstanding representation to our clients and be the best possible local and co-counsel for out-of-state attorneys.

Our Values –

  • Embracing our professional obligations. We provide zealous advocacy while maintaining uncompromising ethics in all interactions with colleagues, clients, and the courts.
  • Leadership. We are deeply committed to leadership in the Cincinnati legal community. Our lawyers serve in formal leadership roles in which they collaborate with Judges, attorneys, law schools, and legal aid organizations; present continuing legal education (CLE) programs; and mentor young attorneys and law students.
  • Passion for Winning. We have a compelling desire to be the best at what we do and are personally invested in obtaining the best possible result in each case.

Our Principles –

  • Mastery. We believe it is the responsibility of all of our professionals to continually develop themselves.
  • Innovation. By constantly reflecting, we continually hone our approach to litigation and client service.
  • Client Focus. We recognize the importance of developing a superior understanding of our clients and their needs. We visit clients at their home or work to gain insight into their specific goals and situation. We go above and beyond with business clients to understand them and their unique legal needs.

Summer Associate Program

Durst Kerridge’s Summer Associate Program is designed to introduce law students to our practice, our clients and the experience of being a trial attorney. The program provides professional mentorship and valuable law firm experience, including direct client contact; the ability to attend depositions, trials, oral arguments, mediations and arbitrations; legal research and writing assignments on par with work done by first-year associates; and networking opportunities with members of the legal profession.

Past summer associates have enjoyed working on the interesting cases Durst handles and have described their experiences as being instrumental in both their professional development and career trajectory. Some became associates at Durst upon graduation from law school, while others went on to be hired by some of the largest law firms in the United States.

Interested applicants should apply through Simplicity/12twenty or by submitting their resume, cover letter, law school transcript and writing samples via email to Alex Durst.

Working with Alex was a great experience for a young lawyer seeking to sharpen his skills. I hadn’t had a lot of experience with the diverse array of civil cases Alex handles, but he did a great job of guiding me through the ropes of practicing as a new attorney. The cases I got to work on were interesting and ran the gamut of civil practice–complex commercial litigation, real estate, products liability, and employment issues, to name a few. Alex himself was also an absolute pleasure to work with, both as a colleague and as a mentor. And working with Alex helped me hone the writing and analytical skills I needed to succeed in my current role as an associate at Steptoe & Johnson. Working with Alex was an all-around fantastic experience for a young attorney, and I would recommend him to anyone looking to start their career on interesting civil work with guidance from a stellar advocate.
