Edward Khatskin is a highly skilled commercial and complex civil litigation attorney based in Chicago, Illinois. Managing Durst Kerridge Khatskin’s Chicago office, he focuses his practice on representing clients in high-dollar-value commercial and complex civil litigation matters in federal and state courts throughout Illinois and Missouri.
Edward has a reputation for being an incredibly determined litigator. Once, defending a medical malpractice case, Edward deposed an evasive plaintiff for three entire days–which ultimately enabled his client to win on summary judgment. In a hard-fought premises liability case in which the plaintiff demanded over $1,000,000, Edward proved that the accident could not have happened the way the plaintiff claimed and even obtained an admission from the plaintiff’s own medical expert that the plaintiff did not have the medical condition the expert had initially claimed, resulting in summary judgment for Edward’s client. Edward brings the same determination to every case he handles.
Edward has significant experience handling cases in the Circuit Court of Cook County, Missouri state courts across the Metropolitan St. Louis metropolitan area, the Northern District of Illinois, the Southern District of Illinois, the Eastern District of Missouri and United States Court of Appeals for the Seventh Circuit. While working for a large regional defense firm, Edward obtained numerous complete defense victories and other favorable results for clients in cases involving medical malpractice, civil rights, insurance coverage disputes and premises liability. While his practice is now geared toward commercial litigation, Edward has secured exceptional results when representing individuals. As lead counsel in a trucking accident case, Edward secured a $5,000,000 settlement for his client.
Prior to attending law school, Edward worked as an accountant and owned a mortgage brokerage. This experience has helped Edward successfully represent clients in litigation involving the financial services and real estate industries, including cases involving complex financial data, business valuation disputes, complex mechanic’s lien issues, quiet title actions, easements, boundary disputes, HOA and condominium disputes, and alleged realtor and title company negligence.
In law school, Edward served as the Executive Articles Editor for the Washington University Journal of Law and Policy and worked as a judicial extern to the Honorable William Stiehl of the United States District Court for the Southern District of Illinois.
Born in St. Petersburg, Russia, Edward is a native Russian speaker. Outside work, Edward and his wife enjoy raising their two young sons, traveling whenever possible, and dancing salsa.
